Attention and mood symptoms often overlap
Difficulty concentrating, procrastination, low motivation, poor sleep, restlessness, fatigue, appetite changes, and forgetfulness can occur with ADHD, anxiety, depression, or more than one condition at the same time.
A careful history helps clarify these patterns and identify which concerns should be addressed first.
What the assessment may review
- Anxiety, persistent worry, panic symptoms, irritability, and physical stress symptoms
- Low mood, loss of interest, motivation, energy, appetite, and sleep changes
- Attention and executive-function symptoms
- Medication, alcohol, and substance use
- Eating-pattern concerns when relevant
- Medical conditions or hormonal symptoms that may contribute to mood or fatigue
- Previous psychotherapy, psychiatric care, and medication response
- Safety concerns and whether a higher level of mental-health support is needed
Treatment and referral
Depending on the assessment, the plan may include medication management when appropriate, behavioral recommendations, psychotherapy referral, coordination with another clinician, or treatment of contributing sleep or medical conditions.
